Questions on the validity of the paleoclimate reconstruction of Mann et al. (1998, 1999) have been raised by McIntyre and McKitrick, (2005) and in a letter to Nature about a year earlier. A rebuttal has been posted on the RealClimate website. Additional comments have been published by Kerr (2005).
