Welcome!
Welcome to Iowa State University. We are located in the central
part of the United States surrounded by some of the richest and most
productive agricultural land in the world. Perhaps your web visit to our
campus will be followed by a physical visit.
Scan the schedule of lectures to see the range of topics covered in this course. By going to each lecture individually, you will see a variety of resources relating to the lecture topic.
Interested in Using Materials?
We are particularly interested in your reason for visiting our
site. If you are looking for educational materials, we hope our homepage
offers information or ideas that will be of use for your purposes. We also
are curious to know if your university offers a course comparable to our
Global Change course. If not, would you as a student be interested in
taking this course asynchronously (at your own pace starting whenever you
like)? We are trying to assess the potential for offering the course in
this manner. We have experimented with administering examinations over the
Internet and managing other assignments remotely for a very limited number
of students.
Other Web Materials
If you as a faculty member are interested in the entire Global
Change course or in substantial pieces of it, please contact us to discuss
how we might work together on courseware of mutual interest.
You also might like to take a look at another web-based meteorology course activity available at Iowa State University. Dr. Douglas Yarger has developed a weather forecasting exercise that is available to anyone on the internet. Help Us Out International dialog among university students and faculty on global change issues is a goal of this course. You can be of particular help in this regard. You will notice that we have an electronic dialog for each lecture as well as for other selected topics. To understand global change issues, we need global perspectives, particularly perspectives from outside the United States and outside the developed countries of the world. Those of you who come to our site from nations who are especially impacted in a negative way by global environmental change and its consequences are strongly urged to participate in our internet discussion on these topics. Please go to the schedule of lectures and look at the lecture closest to the topic you would like to discuss. Go to the electronic dialog for that topic and follow the instructions for entering your ideas. Note that the class is offered spring semester, but you are welcome to enter information at any time. When the topic of your interest is covered in class, please stop back to our site and follow the discussion on that issue.
Again welcome to our site. We look forward to hearing your perspectives on Global Change.
