Andrew is currently a research associate for the NWS Operations Proving Ground (OPG). His work in the OPG has focused on improving hazard communication with the public and NWS partners through the national Hazard Simplification Demonstration. Andrew is also involved with upcoming operational readiness evaluations to test an AWIPS-2 tracking tool and Hazard Services. Finally, he also helps with training FEMA Watchstanders in basic meteorology and hydrology and assisting with Decision Support Services (DSS) Bootcamps.

He received his bachelor of science degree in meteorology in 2007 and his masters in 2012 from Iowa State University. Between degrees, Andrew worked for The Pennsylvania State University in the Weather Communications Group as an operational meteorologist providing forecasts for The New York Times and the International-Herald Tribune.

Originally from northwest Iowa, Andrew has been passionate about weather since the 2nd grade, if not earlier. In his spare time, he enjoys disc golfing, biking, hiking, photography and reading.

I am a current professional member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association and the American Radio Relay League.
