June 6, 2007 (Twistex):

Frustrating day to say the least. This day was progged to be one of the biggest outbreaks in the northern high plains. Every chaser and their mom converged on the area near Murdo, SD. That's where the ISU crew met up with Tim Samaras, after an early departure from Ames. We spent a few hours at a gas station in Murdo, where we saw Josh Wurman's DOW, the TIV, the Twister Sisters, and several other chasers during our brief stay. Shortly before departing Murdo, storms had fired just east of the Black Hills, and we decided to head in that direction.

Unfortunately along the way, our crew experienced some electrical problems. Jayson Prentice and I were riding in the Snackwagon (M3), when suddenly we lost power from our inverter. Tim's expansive knowledge of electronics led to a quick solution - blown fuse in the inverter. We had one too many things plugged into it. Meanwhile, a few of the other vehicles in our crew began experiencing similar problems.

After about a 20 minute delay, we were back on the road. Unfortunately by this time, the storm had become outflow dominate. The storms on this day were not prolific tornado producers by any means, so we likely didn't miss anything. After catching the storm, we played a cat and mouse game back to Sioux Falls, SD, where we spent the night.

Storm already beginning to outflow.

Looking Southwest.

I got to see the TIV.

Stopped at a gas station to chat.
