June 21, 2007:

Of all the chases I've been on, this may have been one of the most fun for me. Two cars left Ames on this day. The lead car was driven by Dr. Gallus, with Eric Aligo, Sarah Schmidt, and a DOT guy. Our car was driven by Dave Flory, with Jimmy C., Scott Lincoln, and myself as passengers. Eric had tethered internet from his cell phone to his laptop, which seemed to work pretty well.

We traveled to northwest Iowa to near Luverne, and watched a broken line of storms approach us from the west. We observed several wall clouds and interesting cloud lowerings, but no funnels or tornadoes. The storms in our area quicky became outflow dominant. We proceeded east on Hwy. 20 to Webster City, and made the decision to head north to intercept a nice looking storm west of Albert Lea. However, on our way there, the storm died and we called it quits in Mason City.

Interesting cloud lowering.

Going away now.

A wall cloud is left.

New storm to our southeast.

Becoming outflow dominant.

New storm to our east, with another lowering.

It too fades away.
