• Supporting reflection in learning is essential (e.g. Bateson 1976):

  • all incidents of learning are phenomena of communication
  • learning must in some basic way be subject to the same rules that apply to communication
  • incidents of learning unfold as meta-communicative movements in different levels of reflection (or communicative contexts)
