Educational Goals and Objectives

During my years in the undergraduate meteorology program at ISU, I plan to take carefully selected courses and participate in research and/or internships to prepare me for graduate school and, ultimately, a career in meteorology. I will develop an understanding of the physical and dynamic processes behind the behavior of the atmosphere while I earn my Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. I will also be proficient in chemistry, physics, and especially mathematics, all of which provide a foundation for my meteorology courses. Finally, I hope to maintain at least a 3.75 overall GPA and a 3.9 GPA in my meteorology courses.

In order to strengthen my meteorology knowledge, I will focus on computational math and statistics courses outside my major. In addition, this will prepare me for graduate school and I will hopefully become proficient in mathematical and statistical programming languages. Since involvement is key, I am currently a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Service, the Iowa State Student Chapter of the AMS, and the Central Iowa Chapter of the NWA. Also, I will stay active in the honor societies of Sigma Alpha Lambda and Phi Kappa Phi, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. I plan to stay involved in these organizations and utilize the opportunities they present.
