Professional Goals and Objectives
I will be graduating from Iowa State in May 2012 with a Bachelor's degree in meteorology. After graduation I plan to attend graduate school to earn my Master's degree and possibly my Ph.D., unless a job offer presents itself. I am undecided as to what I want to do professionally, but I do know that research would be an excellent field for my naturally inquisitive mind. I would like to focus on synoptic weather systems, such as low pressure systems, lake-effect precipitation, or the formation, development, and movement of hurricanes. As I continue to explore graduate study and possible research fields my interests become more and more specific. I would greatly enjoy living along a coastline; however, I will travel wherever my job takes me. Since the meteorology field is very competitive, I have participated in Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs during my summers while attending ISU. This will give me the experience that will make me a competitive candidate for graduate school, as well as experience that will be important when I begin to look for a job after I earn my graduate degree. I will also stay involved in the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association in order to present my research, search for research and job opportunities, and spend valuable time networking with meteorological professionals.
